All manuscripts were submitted electronically to CFHT's ftp site. The files deposited were copied in a different directory and then sorted in subdirectories according to their names (O1-03.tex, P3-22.tex, etc.); unidentifiable papers were put in a subdirectory and later renamed manually. For each paper submitted, editors received a notification by email, and authors were sent a confirmation by email.
Each paper was individually edited to correct spelling mistakes, verify the number of pages, style of titles, tables, figures, references, etc. Figures were checked for quality and readability when printed. A uniform layout style was imposed for a consistent final presentation. The ID codes for each paper were checked to ensure correct entries in the reference lists. The name of authors were corrected for typos and missing initials so that the author index does not contain multiple entries.
Authors were contacted to correct any problem with the length of their paper, files (containing figures) that could not be opened, inappropriate choice of colors, missing captions, errors in references, and missing references. We thank the authors who had to be contacted for their cooperation and prompt replies.
The book was then produced, using GNU Make to process the files using LATEX , create the author and subject indexes using a special style file, create the table of content, and create a PostScript version of the book. All of these steps were accomplished thanks to Perl scripts written by the ADASS VIII editors.
