Travel Information

Tucson Airport - Phoenix Airport - Map - Passport and Visa Requirements

There are two major airports which service the Tucson area: the Tucson International Airport (Tucson, AZ) and the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (Phoenix, AZ).

Tucson Airport

The most direct and efficient travel arrangements for the 2006 ADASS would be for ADASS participants to fly directly into Tucson. The city of Tucson is serviced by Tucson International Airport which is located on the south side of town and is approximately 18 miles (35 minutes) from the ADASS venue. When searching for flights, please note the airport code for Tucson, Arizona is TUS. If you intend to fly directly to Tucson, there are two Tucson airport web sites which should prove to be helpful in planning your trip: Air Tucson and Tucson International Airport.

Please be aware there is no currency exchange office at Tucson International Airport. See our discussion of Currency for further information.

Ground Transportation at Tucson International Airport

All ground transportation is located on the lower level of the airport; this is the same level as the baggage claim area. At the airport you can arrange for a rental car, taxi, or shuttle to take you to the conference venue. Please note the conference venue, The Westin La Paloma, does NOT provide airport shuttle service.

Rental Car Agencies

A variety of well-known rental car agencies service Tucson International Airport; the rental car service counters are located beyond baggage carousel 7 in the direction of the International terminal. Please find specific information on rental car agencies at the airport. There are a limited number of cars available through a rental office located at The Westin La Paloma.

Taxi Service

There is a taxi stand located on the commercial roadway just outside of the baggage claim area. Please find specific information on taxis at the airport. The approximate cost of taking a taxi from the airport to the conference venue should be about US$37.00; this price does not include a tip for the driver. There is no extra cost for baggage or for multiple people going to the same location.

Arizona Stagecoach

The Arizona Stagecoach shuttle service counter is located between baggage carousels 4 and 5 on the lower-level. The Stagecoach provides airport-to-door service from the airport to your destination. You can make arrangements for one-way or round-trip ground transportation. One-way travel is approximately US$36 per person, and round-trip is approximately US$62 per person.

Driving Directions from Tucson International Airport to The Westin La Paloma

Tucson Boulevard is the main road leading into and out of Tucson International Airport.
  • Take Tucson Boulevard to Valencia Road.
  • Turn left onto Valencia and proceed to Kino Boulevard.
  • Turn right onto Kino Boulevard which turns into Campbell Avenue.
  • Proceed approximately 14 miles to Skyline Drive.
  • Turn right onto Skyline Drive.
  • Stay on this road as Skyline Drive merges seamlessly with East Sunrise Drive. Do not take the semi-hidden left turn just east of Campbell which is labelled Skyline Drive. This is the residential portion of Skyline Drive and is not where you want to go.
  • Turn right onto Via Palomita; there is a traffic light here.
  • Follow the signs and proceed to the hotel entrance.

Please see the map below for additional information.

Tips

  • Campbell Avenue between Grant Road and Prince Road can be fairly congested with traffic as this portion of the road is populated with many businesses and restaurants.
  • Campbell Avenue just north of River Road becomes a somewhat winding road which is residential. Please obey the speed limits in this area. If you are driving this road in the daylight, you will have an expansive view of the Santa Catalina mountains to the north.

Phoenix Airport

The Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (airport code: PHX) is located 110 miles (1 hour, 45 minutes) north of the Tucson ADASS venue; it is the sixth busiest airport in the USA. If you would prefer to fly to Phoenix, there are two Phoenix airport web sites which should be helpful for you: the Discover Phoenix and the World Airport Guide for Phoenix.

Ground Transportation at Phoenix Sky Harbor

As one of the major airports in the USA, Sky Harbor is serviced by many rental car agencies, as well as a shuttle service to Tucson.

Rental Car Agencies and Taxi Service

You can arrange for a rental car at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at the new Rental Car Center. In addition, you can obtain information regarding taxi, bus, van, and limousine services at the airport. Please note the Super Shuttle described on this web page only services the local Phoenix area. There are a limited number of cars available through a rental office located at The Westin La Paloma.

Arizona Shuttle

The Arizona Shuttle provides van service between the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and three locations in Tucson. If you choose to fly to Phoenix and take the Arizona Shuttle to Tucson, you will still need to make arrangements to travel from the shuttle stop to The Westin La Paloma. The closest shuttle stop to the ADASS venue is the Speedway location (5350 E. Speedway); this shuttle stop is approximately 7.5 miles (13 minutes) from the ADASS venue. You can make arrangements with the Arizona Shuttle for one-way or round-trip ground transportation. The best price, US$40.00, can be obtained by booking 7 days in advance and on-line for a round trip ticket. Please see the Arizona shuttle web site for additional pricing.
