Conference Announcement (5-June-2006)

We are pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 16th annual conference on Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems (ADASS). The conference will be held at the Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa in Tucson, Arizona, USA during 15-18 October 2006. The conference is hosted locally by the National Optical Astronomy Observatory, the University of Arizona, the Large Binocular Telescope Observatory, and LSST Corporation.

The ADASS Conference Series provides a forum for scientists and computer specialists concerned with algorithms, software, and operational systems that focus on the acquisition, reduction, analysis, storage and dissemination of astronomical data. The program includes invited talks, contributed papers, display sessions, tutorials, and computer demonstrations, as well as special interest ("Birds of a Feather" or BOF) meetings. These activities aim to encourage communication between software specialists, scientists, and users, and also to stimulate further development of astronomical software and systems. This year developers will again have the opportunity to present Focus Demonstrations: a place in the conference schedule and a dedicated meeting room for demonstrating their applications to a small, focused audience.

The featured themes for this year's program are:

  • Challenges and Solutions for Very Large Data
  • Advances in Imaging and Calibration Algorithms
  • Quality Management in Astronomical Data Management Systems
  • Modern Grid Computing in Astronomy
  • Architectures for Large Astronomy Software Systems
  • Solar Neighborhood & Planetary Astronomy

We invite you to attend and participate in this exciting conference.

At this time we solicit proposals for Birds of a Feather sessions. If you are interested in proposing a BoF, please read the full solicitation.

The ADASS 2006 web site (http://adass.org/adass2006/) will be updated regularly during the next few weeks to include information about the conference program, the current list of attendees, and the submitted abstracts. Please review the calendar of important events and deadlines.

We look forward to seeing you in Tucson!
